Order Process

All you need to do to get the process started is to drop me a message. Either via one of my social media channels (Facebook or Instagram) - or preferably via email as that helps me keep track of our communications in one spot.

When I’ve learned a bit about your cycling experience and preferences as well as what kind of bike you’re after, it may be a good idea for us to meet up for a coffee (if you’re local) or maybe have a chat via phone or Skype so we can discuss further. This way you can also get a better feel for who I am before you entrust me to build your frame or complete bike and pay an initial, non refundable, deposit.

Once I have received the deposit we’ll start discussing the details of the build, such as parts selection, paint and of course frame details. I’ll also encourage you to share photos of bikes and other sources of inspiration for your custom build. This will help me, once in the design stage, to create the bike you have in mind.

Now is also a good time to discuss bike fit. Consulting an expert bike fitter before we start the actual design of the frame is highly recommended - it really is the best way for anyone considering a custom frame to ensure they get the most out of their investment. The bike fit data will allow me to truly design the frame just for you - using the contact points determined during the fit session to optimise the frame design for your body.

Your weight, riding style, fit data and preferred handling characteristics are all factors that play a significant role in determining the tube selection and final design of the frame.

At this point I’ll have a good idea of what’s required and I’ll start the design process. I design every frame in 3D before getting into the workshop to start fitting tubes together. During the design stage I’ll be sharing snapshots regularly to ensure we’re headed the right direction with your custom frame, I can even send you 3D files that you can view in an app on your phone or computer.

You’ll sign off on the design by paying 50% of the total cost of the build. Materials for the frame will be ordered, and if I’m building you a complete bike I’ll start sourcing the parts and finishing kit. When the frame materials arrive it’s workshop time and you’ll be able to follow the build progress via the photos I’ll share with you after every workshop session - a selection of these photos will likely also be posted on my social media pages. During the building stage you’re very welcome to drop in for a workshop visit to see your frame take shape in person.

After a few weeks the frame will be completed and it’s time for paint. This will be done by spray gun wizard Steve at Bikes by Steve. As soon as the paint is dry and I have all the parts I will assemble the bike myself and set it up to match the bike fit data.

Now all that’s left is final payment and delivery. Ideally you’ll be able to come here to pick it up in person, but if that’s not a possibility I can pack the bike carefully and ship it to you at your cost and your own risk. I’ll provide a shipping quote, with insurance, using a suitable carrier.

Let’s get started, shall we?
